High Bar VS Low Bar Squat

Using low bar squats for Olympic weightlifting makes sense to me. Mark Rippetoe says that in Olympic weightlifting there is no direct application for back squats other gaining strength. So low bars squats are more beneficial as it lessens the lower back strain and it still helps to strengthen the muscles.
