Our answer to the question do you regret your past mistakes
should be No and the reason why it should be No is because training is like
life, it’s a journey made up of many steps. And every step we take is a
decision and every decision is a step. Each step we take will either take us
forward, backwards or sideways but we will always be on this journey until we
finally reach our destination.
The mistakes we make, makes us who we are. We do battle
everyday as soon as we open our eyes right up to the point we close them. We do
battle in the gym against a object that does not care whether we are strong,
weak, full of energy, feel tried, novice or professional. It also does not care
if we are in pain or feel good. Our battle with the bar is what makes us
determined to succeed not only in the training room but in every aspect of our
lives.
Never regret your mistakes in the past because these
mistakes have given us the will to keep going, a missed lift is an opportunity
to learn why? A missed lift is an opportunity to learn from a mistake that
happened in the past, a second ago or a few days, weeks, few months or even a
few years ago.
A past mistake is a failure and a failure is just a
dress rehearsal for success!’
We lift because we have a deep passion that the ordinary
person is not going to understand that passion. This passion burns deep down
inside and this passion comes hand in hand with failure and success. Paulo
Coelho the author of the book Alchemist once said that ‘there is only one
thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve and thats the fear of failure’.
So ask yourself do you regret your past mistakes? If we do then in my own
personal experience I have found that we haven’t learned the lesson from that
mistake and because we have not learned from that mistake we have failed and we
have failed our dreams, which in my book is one of the ultimate sins against
ourselves. So never regret your past mistakes, learn from them and don’t fear
failure because failure is our mental fuel for our dreams and our dreams fuel
our passion!!
