The Modified "Quick Set" routine (developed by
Jeff Simons, psychologists)
The "Quick Set" routine, which involves physical,
emotional and focus cues, can also be used as a means of refocusing quickly
following a distraction.
- Close your eyes, clear your mind and maintain deep rhythmical breathing, in through your nose and out through your mouth (physical cue)
- Imagine a previous successful lift, see yourself finishing the lift strongly and recreate those emotional feelings of success (emotional cue)
- Return your focus to the lift you are about to do and think of strongly lifting off with the appropriate physical action (focus cue)
- Begin to HATE the bar….let the feeling of hate manifest into a controlled aggression
- Repeat to yourself, while looking at the bar ‘you are nothing, you are nothing, I am stronger, you are nothing’
